As a female martial artist, it can be challenging to find gyms that have female training partners and also great cultures that create a safe and constructive environment to learn and train. Here are some of my favorite gyms that I’ve been to, and also flagging some gyms that are on my wish list.

I practice MMA, but also do Muay Thai, Dutch Kickboxing, Jiu Jitsu and Wrestling. These gyms will be heavy on MMA. The next sport on the list is Judo, and then more traditional martial arts. I’m slowly going to build out my traditional martial arts list as well. This list is still under construction.

Dynamix MMA: One of the best striking/MMA systems that can turn complete beginners into competent fighters from both a competitive and self-defense perspective. - Santa Monica, California

Dynamix Martial Arts & Fitness Centre - Dynamix MMA

Stout PGH: By far, one of my favorite gyms in the country. One of the best gym cultures I’ve ever stumbled upon. - Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

Combat Sport Academy - Dublin, California

This is one of the most special gyms I’ve ever been too. I learned more in 4-days there than I learned in nearly 6-months of striking training. Exceptional coaching, supportive environment for female athletes, and next-level community. I have a strained relationship with the bay area, I’d move back for this gym.

Dublin MMA - Combat Sports Academy - Dublin, California

CATCH MMA - Oakland, California

Didn’t get to spend much time here, but great coaching for striking and MMA. There was a small turn out for MMA, but experience range for striking and grappling. Also, made me want to move back to Oakland.
